Position Description: Director of Ministry with Youth
Part-time, approximately 10 hours per week (may vary seasonally)
Salary range: salaried, $9,000- 12,000 per year
Direct supervisor: Pastor
In collaboration with staff and members of Messiah, the Director of Ministry with Youth will form and grow a ministry with youth in grades 9-12 and their families that includes these components:
1. A weekly Wednesday evening gathering that offers youth a place to connect and be supported in
their life of faith (September – May, with the possibility of continuing June-August)
2. Build relationships with middle school youth who participate in our Wednesday evening program to
bridge their completion of Middle School Ministries to participation in Sr. High youth ministry
3. Plan and lead, at least monthly, a fun and engaging recreational event for youth
4. Assist youth in identifying their gifts, talents, and passions and to offer them into the life of the
church
5. Organize and lead youth service projects to live out Jesus’ teaching to love God and neighbor,
including an annual multi-day summer service/learning experience, including the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) summer national youth gathering, which occurs every 3 years
6. Manage a regular communication channel with youth and their families via email or texting apps
7. Other youth related duties as requested
Required Qualifications:
Commitment to personal faith and continuous spiritual growth
Strong understanding of Christian principles, particularly ELCA theology
Strong communication and organizational skills
Competent in the use of voicemail, email, texting and social media
A presence that exudes hospitality, welcome, joy and graceful living
Demonstrated ability to use sound judgement, honesty, and integrity to plan and execute activities that are welcoming, engaging and fun for youth
Active participant in the worship life of a Christian congregation
A team player
Ability to connect and relate well with youth and their families and our Messiah congregation
A high school diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of a background check
Valid drivers license and clean driving record
Desired Qualifications:
Active participant in an ELCA congregation
Background in human services, social work, education, psychology or related field
College degree
Salary : $9,000 - $12,000
