Messiah Lifeways is a non-profit organization located in Mechanicsburg, PA, that provides a network of services for adults, 55 and better living in South Central PA. Our roots trace back to 1896, when the Brethren in Christ Church founded Messiah Home in Harrisburg, PA, to serve older adults with Christ-like love.
Who You Are
The Spiritual Care Specialist is charged with promoting spiritual wellness and development in our Enhanced Living department. The Spiritual Care Specialist is also tasked with establishing regular visitation patterns with residents and responds to pastoral needs. They provide creative programming that reflects all facets of spiritual wellness in collaboration with the Enrichment and Pastoral Ministries teams. This role shares responsibilities as part of the Pastoral Ministries team.
This position will be a part time, 16 hour per week position.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have knowledge of or experience in the following:
- Efficient Time Management: Managing meetings with multiple families, team members, and clients in a timely manner
- Strong Collaboration/ Communication Skills: Works well in communicating and partnering with other pastors, team members, residents, and families to provide holistic care
- Compassionate Spiritual Leadership: Provides empathetic, resident-centered spiritual care through visits, worship, and programming, while modeling personal spiritual wellness and maintaining professional boundaries
What You’ll Do
- Contribute actively to the advancement of the mission and goals of the Pastoral Ministries department
- Exemplify spiritual wellness by committing to regular practices and rhythms of self-care
- Support and share responsibilities for Pastoral Ministries programming as directed
- Promote Pastoral Ministries departmental initiatives in Enhanced Living neighborhoods
- Conduct pastoral visits and document pastoral assessments, interventions, and outcomes
- Plan for and coordinate spiritual life activities and programming in assigned Enhanced Living neighborhoods
What Else You’ll Need
- Must possess a bachelor's degree in a related field (Christian Ministry, Human Services or Human Development and Family Science) and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A seminary degree is preferred.
- A minimum of three to five years of related experience required.
- Willingness to obtain the needed coursework.
- Preference will be shown to candidates who are qualified for Christian ministry by denominational licensing and/or ordination and/ or one or more units of CPE.
