The Certified Commercial Truck Inspector is responsible for ensuring our shop remains compliant with all state and federal safety standards. This position plays a key role in maintaining vehicle safety, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance for our company’s commercial vehicles.

The Certified Commercial Truck Inspector is responsible for ensuring our shop remains compliant with all state and federal safety standards. This position plays a key role in maintaining vehicle safety, operational readiness, and regulatory compliance for our company’s commercial vehicles.
Responsibilities:
- Perform official Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) commercial vehicle inspections in accordance with state certification and inspection procedures.
- Conduct thorough examinations of braking systems, steering components, suspension, tires, lighting, and other required safety systems.
- Complete inspection reports accurately and maintain proper documentation as required by DPS and company policy.
- Identify necessary repairs or maintenance and communicate findings to fleet maintenance or management teams.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal (FMCSA) and state (TxDMV) regulations.
- Maintain inspection tools, equipment, and certification in good standing.
- Support continuous improvement and safety initiatives across the fleet operations team.
- Keeps shop area neat and clean.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Current and valid Texas State Certification as a Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspector (issued by Texas DPS) – Required.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal CMV regulations, including DOT inspection standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in vehicle inspection, maintenance, or related field (preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
- Valid Texas driver’s license and must maintain a clean driving record to meet insurability standards; CDL preferred but not required.
