Position Summary

Mesabi Metallics is looking for a Safety Technician with to support the implementation and enforcement of workplace safety programs. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of MSHA standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing incidents, and promoting a culture of safety across all site operations.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Technician will be responsible for the following:

• Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and hazard assessments across surface and/or underground mining operations
• Enforce compliance with MSHA and company-specific health and safety regulations
• Identify, report, and assist in correcting unsafe acts, conditions, and practices
• Support incident investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing personnel, and preparing detailed reports
• Maintain safety documentation, including training records, inspection checklists, and incident logs
• Deliver safety training sessions and toolbox talks on relevant topics such as PPE, confined space entry, working at heights, and equipment operation
• Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements
• Participate in emergency preparedness drills and support response activities
• Collaborate with site supervisors and department heads to implement risk mitigation strategies
  
  

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Safety Technician or similar role within the mining industry
• Strong knowledge of MSHA.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  
  

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in a safety-related field preferred
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in both mining and plant environments, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions
• Capability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, inspecting equipment, and navigating uneven terrain
  
  

Salary

• $32.00 - $36.00 per hour
