The Manager plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates Environmental Services department functions and daily activities and ensures hospital facilities are maintained in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition consistent with healthcare standards. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and maintaining departmental policies and procedures governing environmental services operations; inspecting and evaluating facility physical conditions and environmental cleanliness; and implementing corrective actions when necessary. The Manager oversees organizational compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations and ensures environmental policies, procedures, and manuals remain current, accessible, and survey-ready at all times. The position monitors regulatory changes impacting environmental services operations and updates departmental practices to maintain compliance while collaborating with Infection Prevention, Facilities Management, and Safety programs to support infection control and regulatory standards. The Manager ensures proper handling and disposal of biohazardous, hazardous, and regulated medical waste and investigates, evaluates, and recommends new supplies, equipment, and operational improvements to administration. Responsibilities also include developing and recommending departmental operating and capital budgets, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring operations remain within approved budget parameters. The Manager oversees purchasing, inventory control, and vendor coordination and ensures departmental projects and operational initiatives are completed on time and within budget. The position leads, supervises, and evaluates Environmental Services staff, providing direction, training, and performance management while utilizing independent judgment and extensive experience to plan and accomplish departmental goals. The Director performs a variety of complex administrative and operational tasks requiring initiative, creativity, and broad decision-making latitude and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Environmental Services Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of three to five years of progressive Environmental Services leadership experience is required, with hospital or healthcare experience preferred and Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare experience highly desirable. Certification as a Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) or equivalent is preferred but not required. The position requires knowledge of healthcare sanitation standards, infection prevention practices, CMS Conditions of Participation, OSHA standards, and applicable Nevada regulatory requirements. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership, budgeting, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills and possess the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex departmental functions.
