Base Hourly:
$20.76
Class/Calendar:
B22, 12 months

New Hire Experience:
1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum
New Hire Education:
1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position
Job Summary:
To operate an industrial tractor equipped to move materials around construction sites or similar locations; to provide for the completion of projects in a safe and timely manner.
Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Grounds. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a tractor/loader, dump truck, tractor/scraper, tractor/implement, water truck
- Perform incidental ground construction work and manual labor as needed
- Safely excavate underground utilities to install and to repair
- Construct and renovate athletic/sports fields
- Perform light maintenance on equipment used
- Perform various tasks related to school facility construction and maintenance of outdoor aspects including landscape irrigation systems
- Assist the Grounds Foreman with field decisions
- Assist other Operations shops with excavation, installation and backfilling of underground utilities
- Be on call for emergency situations
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
- Valid, or ability to obtain within 90 days, Arizona CDL driver’s license with tanker endorsement
- Experience with construction related had and power tools
- Experience with Laser grading systems
- Construction work or manual labor experience
- High School education or equivalent

- Ability to safely operate various construction related equipment
- Knowledge of ‘Blue Stake’ color codes and markings preferred
- Knowledge of athletic field layout, construction and renovation preferred
- Ability to perform work assignments in accordance with verbal and/or written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisors
- Primarily works outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow
- May work across multiple campuses, sports fields, playgrounds, and green spaces
- Sometimes works in garages or workshops for equipment maintenance or storage
- Potential exposure to chemicals (fertilizers, fuels), machinery hazards, and uneven terrain; safety training and PPE are usually required
- Must be able to sit for long periods while operating machinery, but also stand and walk during equipment checks or manual tasks
- May lift or carry equipment or materials (often up to 50 lbs); needs endurance for long days outdoors
