New Hire Experience:

$500 for each full-time year of certified teaching or verified like experience

New Hire Education:

Job Summary:

The Assessment Coordinator leads the planning, coordination, and execution of all district, state, and federally mandated assessments for Mesa Public Schools. This position ensures compliance with all testing regulations and accountability frameworks, oversees data integrity and reporting processes, and provides leadership ensuring appropriate training, accommodations, and ethical practices are in place. While the primary focus is on the operational and procedural aspects of assessments, this role works closely with the accountability and analytics teams to support accurate data reporting and ensure assessment results are meaningfully interpreted and used to improve outcomes for all students. Reporting to the Director of Data and Accountability, this position collaborates with other Data and Accountability positions, school and department leadership, as well as external agencies to ensure high-quality, secure, and efficient assessment practices across the district.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment Program Management

  • Coordinate the full lifecycle of all district, state, and federal assessments (e.g., AASA, ACT, AzSCI, AZELLA, MSAA, NAEP, TSA, etc.), including test scheduling, training, materials management, data submission, and reporting.
  • Serve as the district's lead contact with testing vendors and the Arizona Department of Education for all assessment-related communications.
  • Manage testing windows, calendars, materials distribution and collection, user access, accommodations, and secure handling of testing materials and data.
  • Ensure fidelity to test administration protocols, accommodations, security procedures, and testing ethics in accordance with ADE, College Board, ACT, and federal guidelines.
  • Oversee assessment platform access, user management, troubleshooting, and system readiness in collaboration with IT and vendors.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive professional learning and coaching for school test coordinators, administrators, and other personnel on test administration protocols, security requirements, accommodations, and procedures.
  • Provide clear documentation and support tools for school sites to ensure consistency and fidelity of assessment implementation.
  • Design and facilitate professional development that strengthens staff understanding of assessment literacy, data interpretation, and ethical testing practices.

Compliance and Security

  • Ensure all testing is conducted in accordance with state and federal guidelines, including test security protocols, accommodations, and reporting procedures.
  • Investigate and document all testing irregularities, misadministrations, and security breaches in collaboration with school and district leadership as required.
  • Maintain secure records and logs of testing activities and access permissions.
  • Support troubleshooting and issue resolution during testing windows.
  • Stay up to date with changes in assessment policy, vendor platforms, and ADE guidance to ensure district readiness.

Collaboration and Support

  • Work collaboratively with the assessment and accountability team to support accurate and timely reporting of assessment results for school performance metrics, federal and state accountability submissions, and school improvement planning.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure alignment between assessment operations and instructional and data supporting needs in support of student success.
  • Serve as a liaison between district departments, school sites, and external partners to ensure all stakeholders are informed and supported throughout the assessment cycle.
  • Provide updates and briefings to district and school leaders regarding testing timelines, policy changes, and performance trends.
  • Offer coaching and guidance to site administrators and instructional leaders on interpreting assessment data to inform instruction and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with professional learning teams to align assessment training with district priorities for instructional improvement and data-informed decision-making.
  • Promote a positive culture around assessment that supports instructional goals and reduces unnecessary testing burden.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, assessment, educational leadership, or a related
  • One year experience coordinating assessments in a K-12 educational setting
  • Teaching experience
  • Knowledge of state and federal reporting requirements, accountability systems, and related policies and procedures
  • Experience utilizing assessment platforms and systems
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, assessment, educational leadership, or a related field
  • Experience supporting assessment for special populations (e.g., ELL, SPED, gifted)
  • Three years of classroom teaching experience
  • Experience managing assessment platforms and systems
  • Experience serving in a leadership role (e.g., team lead, department head)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Advanced understanding of assessment practices and platforms and the use of assessment data in monitoring learning and program effectiveness (e.g., Pearson, ACT, College Board, MSAA, AZELLA, TSA, etc.).
  • Knowledge of test security best practices, accommodations, and ethical testing protocols.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines during high-stakes testing periods.
  • Understanding of state and federal education accountability systems, metrics, and reporting (e.g., ADEConnect, AzEDS, and statewide longitudinal data systems).
  • Experience working with student information systems (SIS), assessment platforms and/or data warehouses.
  • Experience with data analytics, data wrangling and/or data blending/integration tools (e.g., SQL, Python)
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel, Google Sheets, Google Looker Studio).
  • Ability to design and deliver professional learning to various stakeholders to build data literacy and capacity.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop skills with a growth mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in translating complex data into clear and actionable insights that drive data-informed decisions and continuous improvement to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects while ensuring accuracy, compliance, confidentiality, and deadlines are met.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to foster positive relationships and work collaboratively with teachers, administrators and other stakeholders.
  • Technologically fluent with Microsoft, Google, and related platforms to support data-informed decision-making.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily office-based with frequent district site visits.
  • Occasional evening or weekend commitments.
  • Fast-paced, high-stakes environment requiring adaptability and responsiveness.
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands for typing and handling documents.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual acuity for reading and computer work.
