New Hire Experience:
1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

Job Summary:
Implementation of targeted behavioral interventions to students, with minimal supervision from administration and certified staff, within the Behavioral Intervention Center (BIC) and/or school campus. To document and maintain accurate records of participation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement behavioral and social-emotional supports with an emphasis on tiered intervention plans to targeted students or groups of students, as needed
- Design effective behavioral intervention plans for targeted students with input from teacher and administration
- Engage individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions
- Develop a repertoire of assessment strategies consistent with instructional goals, teaching methods, and individual student needs to more accurately assess student behavior skills and understandings
- Provide intervention strategies for the general education classroom and individual students with high-risk behaviors
- Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students, targeted students and students who represent sub-group populations
- Monitor and communicate student behavioral benchmarks as they progress through the intervention phases
- Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive
- Assist Special Education staff with implementing Student Redirection/Bailout plans
- Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions
- Motivate targeted students to adhere to behavioral norms and student expectations while on campus
- Perform record keeping and maintain documentation of participation in program
- Monitor student classroom attendance, when necessary
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the unit
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
- Associates Degree or 60 college credits required at time of hire or pass district ParaPro Test
- Experience with adolescent age children and handling stressful situations

- Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, etc)
- Ability to work well with students, parents, district personnel and general public
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain confidentiality
- Ability and willingness to work with students in a contained setting that have behavioral challenges and manifest defiant behaviors in a school setting
- Ability to carry out and follow through with interventions assigned by certified staff
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and students about the effectiveness of interventions
- May have an office for meetings and paperwork but spends significant time in classrooms, hallways, and other areas monitoring and supporting students
- Works closely with teachers, administrators, counselors, special education staff, and parents
- Frequent face-to-face interactions with students, educators, and families, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills
- May encounter high-stress scenarios, including managing behavioral crises or de-escalating conflicts
- Must be able to move throughout the school to observe and support students, including walking, standing, bending, and occasionally running (if responding to an emergency)
- May need to assist students physically, such as guiding them to a designated area, helping with seating arrangements, or implementing restraint techniques (if properly trained and required) up to 50 lbs
