Job Summary
The Senior Purchasing Manager leads Mesa’s procurement operations to ensure the timely, cost-effective, and compliant acquisition of materials, equipment, and services. They lead a team of Buyers responsible for executing purchase orders and ensuring material availability across multiple U.S. manufacturing sites. This role focuses on operational purchasing execution, translating MRP and demand signals into timely procurement actions, maintaining balanced inventory levels, and driving supplier delivery performance to support uninterrupted production. The position partners closely with Planning, Materials Management, and Operations to ensure raw materials, components, and indirect production materials are available at the right time, quantity, and location. The Senior Purchasing Manager leverages data, technology, and leadership practices to optimize purchasing impact across the organization.
Essential Duties
- Lead, coach, and develop a multi-site purchasing team to achieve operational goals and align with business objectives
- Set clear expectations and standards for purchase order execution, including confirmations, expediting, and exception management
- Oversee end-to-end PO execution (MRP-driven), ensuring timely placement, maintenance, and closure to support production
- Balance workload across plants, materials, and commodities to optimize performance and responsiveness
- Provide hands-on support for material shortages, supplier issues, and critical escalations
- Monitor open orders and supplier commitments to prevent line stoppages and production disruptions
- Direct buyer actions (pull-ins, push-outs, reschedules, cancellations) in response to changing demand
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Planning, Operations, Engineering, and Materials to align supply with production needs
- Support S&OP and forecasting processes, ensuring timely and accurate communication with suppliers
- Manage inventory balance by aligning material availability with working capital targets and minimizing excess/obsolete stock
- Oversee supplier performance, including on-time delivery, responsiveness, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead supplier escalation and recovery efforts in coordination with Quality, Engineering, and Sourcing
- Provide visibility into material risks, shortages, and recovery plans to operations and plant leadership
- Standardize purchasing processes, improve supply chain visibility, and drive efficiency and risk reduction across sites
- Ensure compliance with internal controls while managing team performance, resource allocation, budgets, and reporting

Education
Required
- 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Operations, Business, Finance, or a related field from an accredited university.
Preferred
- Graduate Degree - MBA, Master’s in Supply Chain/Operations.
Experience
Required
- 8 years of progressive purchasing, materials, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment
- 5 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional, and project-driven environment, preferably in energy, industrial, or technical services
- 4 years of experience in a leadership or management role managing Buyers or materials teams
- 4 years of proven experience in developing and implementing procurement strategies that align with organizational goals.
Preferred
- 4 years of exposure to SIOP or production planning processes
- 4 years of familiarity with supplier lead time variability, constrained supply, or sole source materials
- Honorably discharged service veterans are preferred.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations
Required
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
Preferred
- CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager), CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management), or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) are a plus.

- Strong knowledge of MRP-driven purchasing, manufacturing demand signals, and multi-site operations
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar)
- Solid understanding of procurement, supply chain, and departmental operations and their impact on business performance
- Knowledge of performance metrics, budgeting, and resource planning to support operational decision-making
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and execution frameworks
- Effective communication and problem-solving across cross-functional teams, suppliers, and leadership
- Supplier coordination and escalation management to resolve material and delivery risks
- Resource allocation and performance management to meet operational and service-level objectives
- Strong decision-making skills in fast-paced, high-demand manufacturing environments
- Ability to lead, coach, and develop teams to drive performance and accountability
- Process improvement skills to enhance efficiency, scalability, and execution quality
- Ability to report on performance, risks, and escalations to senior leadership
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple plants and shifting production demands
- Ability to lead purchasing execution and ensure alignment with production and business objectives
- Ability to apply practical, hands-on problem solving to resolve operational challenges
- Ability to drive accountability and consistent execution across teams and locations
- Must be able to fluently speak, write, and read in English.
