Job Summary
The Family Search and Engagement worker will be located in the Child Welfare Division. This position will identify family members of children and youth who were removed from their caregivers due to alleged abuse and/or neglect. The purpose of is to find relatives who can be potential placement for the child so they can maintain family connection until permanency is achieved.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: *(The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)*
Upon removal of a child/youth from their family home, the family search and engagement worker will:
Identify and locate any family who may be interested in providing placement or support for the child/youth during the family's involvement with the Mesa County Department of Human Services (MCDHS).
Utilize various search engines and social media platforms to locate and find absent parents and/or relatives that may have not been identified by the parent/s.
Contact each family member by phone, email and/or mail and identify the role of a family search and engagement worker and the options the relative can play in the child's placement. When age appropriate, speak to the child/youth to find out who they would like to live with until they can safely return home.
Communicate effectively with multiple persons, including teams within the Child Welfare Division.
Hold a family meeting to discuss placement options when multiple family members are identified. Assist the family with identifying which family member would be best suited to move forward with a home study.
Within 30 days of the child's removal, provide a written report to the case carrying Social Caseworker outlining the results of the family search and make recommendations as to which family members should move forward with a home study.
At the request of the case carrying Social Caseworker, complete ongoing family searches as needed.
Keep track of any relatives willing to provide support to the child in any other way, including but not limited to relatives supervising visits between the parents and their child, transporting the child to doctor visits, facilitating sibling visits, etc.
Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Minimum age of 21 years old
Hold a valid driver's license
Undergo a background check
Education And Experience
A Bachelor's degree in the human services or related field with at least 1 year of professional experience in the public or private human services field or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) (desired)
Physical Requirements And Working Environment
This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
