Job Summary


This is a full-time, short term benefits eligible position. This position serves as the principal staff member responsible for planning, promoting, organizing and administering study abroad programs in coordination with faculty program directors under the overall supervision of the Student Services Manager for Student Success - Retention.

This responsibility encompasses a wide range of specialized tasks and requires a thorough understanding and vigilant, continual study and adherence to laws, regulations, procedures, processes, best practices and the management of student programs of an international nature. Primary to the role is expert level understanding of risk assessment to ensure the safety of MCC staff and the participating students.

Given the expansive nature of the responsibility, skills, systems and knowledge integral to the position, the person in this role essentially operates semi-independently within the Office of International Education and works in coordination and in conjunction with the
Program Manager for the Center for Global Engagement at the Maricopa Community College District office.

Essential Functions


35% Serves as the lead analyst and planner for all study abroad programs at Mesa Community College; plans and administers all activities in the life cycle of study abroad programs including developing funding proposals, training faculty program directors, negotiating with vendors domestically and internationally, drafting contracts and release forms, designing orientation programs, and overseeing the programs until completion. Continually monitors events and developments in target countries to assess risk and to keep abreast of developments which may have an impact on the safety and successful implementation of study abroad programs.

20% Serves as the lead analyst and planner for all new study abroad programs proposed by prospective faculty program directors, including the assessment of feasibility, assessment of risk, project design, negotiations and related tasks required to develop program proposals for submission to the leadership at MCC and the District to request program approval.

20% Initiates and maintains all the system's necessary data collection; analyzes data, and prepares related reporting using the specialized and internally-tailored Terra Dotta Client Relationship Management (CRM) system to administer all aspects of the study abroad function. Initiates and processes all program and participant data in the system and initiates periodic modifications and updates to the Terra Dotta system of records.

15% Coordinates all aspects of the plans approved for implementation including the training of and coordination with faculty program directors and assigned support staff to ensure the application and adherence to best practices and compliance with Federal, State, District and institutional laws and policies to ensure compliance. Prepares reports to a number of agencies in the U.S. Government (e.g. State Department funded associations), the MCC leadership and the MCCCD. Coordinates MCC memberships in news services, associations in the field and represents MCC in activities.

10% Performs other tasks assigned by the Student Services Manager or Dean of Students in support of the International Education function and programs which may include serving as a Designated School Official to advise and administer international students; the organization and implementation of special programs of student activities on behalf of MCC.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications


  • Experience coordinating, administering, planning, managing, monitoring, and evaluating international student/study abroad programs in a community college setting
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively organize activities and manage the range of relationships involved in maintaining successful study abroad programs.
  • Experience using a CRM system (e.g. Terra Dotta) to track program participation and student milestones
  • Experience planning and managing budgets for revenue-generating student programs
  • Demonstrated examples of successful management of projects that require cross-unit collaboration and attention to detail
  • Experience assessing program risk and exercising sound judgement
  • One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

Special Working Conditions


Standard work schedule varies during the year: August through mid-May: Monday - Friday, 8 hour days; mid-May through the end of July: Monday - Thursday, 10 hour days

Required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor

May be required to travel or be assigned to another MCCD location

Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
