What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scale Clerk position at Mervis Industries?
The employee in this position will weigh and inspect all incoming vehicles. In addition, the job will require the dispatching of trucks for local pick-ups. This employee reports directly to the General Manager. This person will also be required as needed to travel to one of the local western yards (Springfield, Mattoon) to fill in for other Scale Clerks.
1. Inspect & weigh all incoming traffic
§ All off-specification material will be handled according to the material receiving and shipping policies
2. Inspect all outgoing scrap
§ All off-specification material will be handled according to the material receiving and shipping policies
3. Grade and price scrap to be purchased in accordance with the marketing guidelines set forth by the Director of Marketing
4. Price loads coming into the yard and field phone calls in regards to the pricing of material
5. Resolve customer questions and complaints
6. Assist in maintaining a safe work environment for both employees and customers
7. Understand and conform to limits set forth by Illinois Department of Transportation and specific railroads.
8. Communicate with operators and warehouse regarding shipments coming in and going out.
OPERATIONAL DUTIES:
1. Perform general clerical duties such as filing, record-keeping, and typing are completed in an accurate and professional manner
2. Maintain good service relations with vendors, employees, and outside customers.
CLERICAL DUTIES:
1. Cash disbursements –
§ All transactions are properly and accurately recorded
§ All transactions are properly and accurately disbursed
§ The cashier reconciliation is accurate and complete at each daily closing
2. Opening and closing of the scale
§ The scale system must be brought online and closed successfully and on-time each day
§ Scale activity is conducted in a courteous, professional and expeditious manner with minimal disruption to the flow of traffic through the facility

2. High School diploma or equivalent with additional training

SPECIFIC SKILLS
1. Good communication skills

4. The ability to work accurately in a stressful situation
5. Pass a credit check
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
1. Scrap purchasing experience is desired
2. Retail or Banking experience a plus

Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
