Job Summary
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will play a vital role in enhancing the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. You’ll engage with clients in group homes, assisted living facilities, and community settings, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being while promoting an active lifestyle.
What you’ll do
- Provide personalized care and assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, and meal preparation.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and overall health status, documenting any changes or concerns.
- Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring adherence to prescribed medication administration and treatment protocols.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive development, including memory care for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties and ensuring hygiene standards are met.
- Assist with mobility needs using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary, while ensuring the dignity and comfort of residents during transfers.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and family members to provide comprehensive support and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
Basic qualifications
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities or autism is essential.
- Familiarity with first aid and CPR procedures to ensure immediate response in emergencies.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality in patient care.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience in group home settings or long-term care environments is highly valued.
- Skills in cooking and meal preparation to cater to dietary needs of residents.
- Background in social work or caregiving that enhances your ability to connect with clients on a personal level.
