Job Title: Consulting Operations Specialist

Department: Client Services

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid)

Reports To: Consulting Accounting Manager

Summary

The Consulting Operations Specialist delivers operational advisory services to clients, focusing on process improvement, software implementations, and the development of standard operating procedures. As a small consulting firm, we value flexibility and teamwork—this role may occasionally provide support to other functions such as bookkeeping, tax planning, financial advisory, and accounting services as business needs require. The ideal candidate thrives in a client-facing environment, thinks critically under pressure, and can manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines consistently.

ResponsibilitiesA. Operational Advisory Services

  • Assess client business processes and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) tailored to client needs.
  • Lead software implementations for clients, including:
  • Needs assessment and software selection support
  • System setup and configuration
  • Data migration and validation
  • User training and documentation
  • Design and implement internal controls and workflow improvements.
  • Create process maps, workflow diagrams, and operational documentation.
  • Provide recommendations to clients on operational best practices and technology solutions.

B. Client Engagement and Project Management

  • Manage client engagements from discovery through implementation and follow-up.
  • Conduct client meetings to gather requirements, present recommendations, and review progress.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and deliverables for operational advisory engagements.
  • Communicate proactively with clients regarding project status, milestones, and any issues.
  • Ensure all client deliverables are completed on time and meet quality standards.
  • Attend client site visits to assess operations, implement solutions, and provide hands-on support.

C. Cross-Functional Support

  • As a small firm, flexibility is essential. Provide support to other service areas as business needs require, which may include:
  • Bookkeeping and accounting support
  • Tax planning coordination and documentation
  • Financial advisory project assistance
  • Client services administrative tasks
  • Collaborate with the Consulting Accounting Manager and other team members on client deliverables across service lines.
  • Maintain a willingness to learn new skills and take on tasks outside core responsibilities to support the team and clients.

D. Collaboration and Team Support

  • Work closely with the Consulting Accounting Manager to coordinate client services and priorities.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss client progress, challenges, and process improvements.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with team members to enhance overall service delivery.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

E. Professional Development

  • Stay current with industry trends, software updates, and operational best practices.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development in operations, process improvement, and consulting methodologies.
  • Obtain relevant certifications as agreed upon with management.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Accounting, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in operations, process improvement, consulting, or a related field.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to support other functions as needed in a small firm environment. Foundational understanding of bookkeeping or accounting principles is a plus.
  • Software Skills: Experience implementing or configuring business software. Comfortable learning new systems quickly.
  • Process Improvement: Demonstrated ability to analyze processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement solutions.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and deliver quality results.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with confidence in client-facing situations.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to think on your feet, troubleshoot issues, and develop creative solutions under pressure.
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Transportation: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for client site visits.

Work Environment

  • This is a hybrid position based in the Houston, TX area.
  • Client site visits are required approximately 3 days per week.
  • Remote work is available for non-client-facing days.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to set your own hours within reason, coordinating with clients and team members as needed.

Compensation & BenefitsCompensation

  • Base Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
  • Mileage Reimbursement: Provided for client site visits.
  • Revenue Share: Earn additional compensation through revenue share for new services sold to existing clients or new client onboarding.

Time Off

  • Unlimited PTO: Available after 90 days of employment.
  • Paid Holidays: 11 paid holidays per year.
  • Extended Thanksgiving Break: Additional paid time off during Thanksgiving week.
  • Winter Holiday Break: 2-week paid office closure from late December through early January.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
