What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Exercise Instructor position at MERRIMACK VALLEY YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. To represent the YMCA personally, professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA. The Group Exercise Instructor I, under the supervision of the Assistant Health & Wellness Director, volunteers and program participants. All Merrimack Valley YMCA staff will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA.
The schedule for this position will be weekday morning, evening, and weekends.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsibilities include member check in and attendance, utilizing online registration system, enforce and follow Group Exercise Guidelines for equipment usage, appropriate attire, age requirements, conduct, etc.
- Program responsibilities include but are not limited to; Instruct and promote Group Exercise and Wellness Center programming.
- Ensure and maintain quality of program and that it meets YMCA National standards and complies with all safety regulations.
- Maintain the overall cleanliness and appearance of the Group Exercise designated room spaces.
- Serve as a YMCA resource in the area of health and fitness programming.
- Keep safety as a first priority. Emphasize personal safety and emotional wellbeing of all staff, volunteers, members and program participants using the YMCA and the YMCA Group Exercise Studio and Wellness Center.
- By personal example helps interpret quality of YMCA Character Values or Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Reports all accidents/unusual incidents immediately to the Assistant Health & Wellness Director with all necessary documentation.
- Accept and perform all other responsibilities necessary for the good of the organization.
Specific Job Segments:
- Report any schedule changes to your supervisor prior to the change in writing.
- Program responsibilities include but are not limited to; instruct and promote group exercise class programming while maintaining safe and effective training protocols.
- Check members in for classes using online registration system.
- Ensure and maintain quality of programs and that it meets YMCA National standards and complies with all safety regulations.
- Maintain the overall cleanliness and appearance of the designated program space by putting away all equipment in a safe and orderly manner.
- Serve as a member resource in the area of health and fitness programming.
- Able to work and communicate clearly and effectively as part of a staff team both verbally and in writing.
- Must remain flexible for job specific and general YMCA trainings and mandatory staff meeting
Customer Service
- Ensure member satisfaction while interacting with members, program participants and volunteers.
- Initiate and represent a high quality of service and connectedness with all members, participants, volunteers and potential members in the wellness center and throughout the YMCA
- Be knowledgeable about various YMCA programs and events information.
- Be available to members, program participants and staff for questions, concerns and comments and follow up as needed.
Financial Development
- Provides leadership and support of Annual Campaign that result in achievement of our annual fund-raising goal.
- Actively promote membership within department. Increase visibility and credibility of YMCA programs
Other Duties
- Attend staff training’s and update your skills as position demands.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current CPR certification (must have with 60 days of hire)
- Certified Group Exercise Instructor (encompasses all Group Exercise, Spinning®, Yoga and Pilates Instructors) from Nationally approved certification, (i.e. YMCA, AFAA, Spinning® or ACE).
- Complete New Employee Orientation within 60 days of date of hire.
- Complete online Child Abuse Prevention Training before beginning first day of employment.
- Must have good human relations’ skills to facilitate positive relationships with staff, volunteers, parents, members and program participants.
- Must be committed to the Merrimack Valley YMCA’s mission, goals, and Character Development.
Salary : $30 - $35
