Merrimack College is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated Open Rank Clinical Professor of Athletic Training, to join the Department of Athletic Training and Exercise Science within the Division of Health Sciences. We invite applicants to become part of the CAATE-accredited 5-year accelerated Master of Science in Athletic Training program. Applications for a non-tenure track 9-12 month faculty position, to begin July 1, 2027.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate should be highly experienced and skilled in curricular development, course development, BOC exam preparation and testing, clinical instruction, and didactic instruction in athletic training. Experience in simulation development, implementation, and evidence-based practice would be a plus. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate athletic training courses, engage with pre-professional students, advise and provide support with recruitment and retention. Collaboration with the Athletic Training Faculty in programmatic assessment, policy development, interprofessional education initiatives, and the maintenance of professional program accreditation through CAATE is expected. Teaching responsibilities may include courses on clinical examination and diagnosis of the upper and lower extremities, spine, and other related areas, based on programmatic needs and the candidate’s expertise. Depending on departmental and programmatic needs, administrative leadership opportunities may be available. Faculty are also expected to contribute to departmental, college and professional service, which may include curriculum development, accreditation support and related responsibilities.

Qualifications And Skills

The full-time Athletic Training faculty and administrator must satisfy the following minimum qualifications:

  • Master's or doctorate degree (preferred) in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or a closely related field.
  • Current BOC certification and Massachusetts state license (eligible).
  • A minimum of five years of experience working as an Athletic Trainer with evidence of current clinical skills, knowledge, and competence in the area of clinical instruction.
  • Experience teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in a CAATE-accredited program.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical knowledge, effective teaching and mentoring skills, and commitment to supporting student learning and professional development within the Athletic Training program.
  • Demonstrate commitment to fostering a supportive and student-centered educational and clinical environment.
  • Experience designing and delivering effective didactic, laboratory, hybrid, and online learning experiences in higher education.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative, student-centered approach to teaching, mentoring, and professional engagement.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to determine roles and responsibilities for fulfilling, monitoring, and rehearsing NCAA health and safety-related requirements.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and an understanding of healthcare disparities impacting historically underserved communities.
  • Outstanding record of professional service commensurate with career stage.
  • Experience with athletic training program administration, accreditation processes, curriculum development, and/or assessment in higher education settings preferred.
  • Willingness to contribute to program development, curriculum enhancement, and innovative teaching practices.

Compensation

The expected 9-month base salary range (paid over 12 months) for the Assistant Clinical Professor position is $78,000-$90,000; for the Associate Clinical Professor is $90,000-$105,000; for the Full Clinical Professor $105,000-$120,000. The actual pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, candidate qualifications and prior experience, scope of responsibilities, internal equity, and market considerations.

Work Location

This is an on-campus position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community.

This position is subject to the successful completion of a criminal background check.
