What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Salesperson - Fair Oaks Location position at Merrifield Garden Center?
We are looking for friendly and knowledgeable people to assist customers while they shop for plants and gardening supplies at the garden center. You will need to be familiar with all of the different types of plants that we carry in the nursery, including trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials, and the different types of gardening supplies that we carry, such as soils, mulches and fertilizers.
While candidates who possess some level of plant and gardening knowledge are preferred, our primary goal is to find people who are good at sales and enjoy helping others. There are plenty of opportunities to learn about all the different types of plants and gardening supplies that we carry from our team of experienced horticulturists.
Some of the primary responsibilities include:
Greeting customers as they come into the nursery, learning what types of plants they are looking for, and making suggestions based on their particular growing environment.
Answering plant or gardening questions that customers may have and guiding them on proper planting and watering procedures.
Facilitating the sales process by getting the customer the bar codes they need to take to the cashier, and then having the plants pulled to the loading dock.
Helping coordinate deliveries or plantings, and making sure that the plants are pulled to the hold area.
Answering customer phone calls and emails.
Watering plants and making sure that the nursery is neat and clean.
Communicating with fellow sales people, cashiers, loaders and phone operators as part of team to ensure complete customer service and satisfaction.
Both full time and part time opportunities are available.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Positive, respectful, can-do attitude
Knowledge of plant material and gardening
Ability to work individually or in a team environment
Ability to stand or be physically active for hours at a time
Willingness to work outdoors, rain or shine
Ability to lift and move plants
Ability to work without close supervision
A degree in horticulture, landscape design, business management, communications, hospitality or a related field is a plus
Evening and weekend availability will be required during our peak season.
