Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the complete payroll process for salaried, hourly, and grant-funded employees.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Review and approve payroll registers, wage payments, tax filings, and related reports.
- Maintain payroll schedules, deadlines, and year-end processing activities.
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and payroll reporting requirements.
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of W-2s, 1099s, payroll tax filings, and other required documentation.
- Coordinate payroll audits and serve as a liaison with external auditors.
- Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary payroll process updates.
- Maintain payroll systems, employee records, and confidential payroll information.
- Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate employee onboarding, offboarding, status changes, and benefit deductions.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and collaborate with Finance on general ledger postings and reporting.
- Support payroll system enhancements, upgrades, testing, and implementation projects.
- Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, benefits, and timekeeping.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, adjustments, and corrections.
- Develop, document, and maintain payroll procedures and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and service delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive payroll administration experience.
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, wage and hour requirements, and compliance standards.
- Experience processing payroll in a high-volume or multi-department environment.
- Advanced proficiency with payroll systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a nonprofit, social services, healthcare, or multi-site organization.
- Experience managing payroll for grant-funded programs or employees supported by multiple funding sources.
- Familiarity with UKG Ready or comparable payroll platforms.
- Bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Experience supporting payroll audits and financial reconciliations.

Work Environment & Benefits
This is a full-time, on-site position requiring 35 hours per week. The Payroll Manager works closely with Human Resources, Finance, and organizational leadership in a professional office environment. Occasional flexibility may be required during payroll processing cycles, audits, and year-end reporting periods.
Compensation for this position ranges from $85,000 to $105,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
