The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Meritus Medical Center offers an exceptional opportunity to join a highly skilled team of critical care nurses in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This role provides a high level of clinical autonomy while caring for a diverse population of surgical and trauma patients.
Our unit maintains low nurse-to-patient ratios in alignment with national ASPAN standards, fully supported by a dedicated leadership team. This structure allows nurses the time and resources to deliver safe, high-quality, and individualized patient care.
As a Phase I recovery unit, PACU RNs are responsible for continuous monitoring, assessment, and intervention for post-operative patients emerging from anesthesia. Nurses in this role are exposed to a wide variety of surgical procedures and benefit from ongoing opportunities to learn about advancements in surgical and recovery care.

In addition to recovery services, the PACU supports hospital operations by:
- Serving as an overflow unit for critically ill patients during periods of high census
- Functioning as a pre-operative holding area, providing patient preparation and nursing care prior to surgery
- Assisting anesthesia providers with patient assessments and pre-procedural evaluations
- ASN Required. BSN Preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse. Prior PACU or Critical Care experience preferred.
- Current Maryland RN license or Active Compact/ Multistate RN license recognized by MBON
- Current BLS
