Job Title: Sr. Ab Initio Developer
Location: Reston, VA – Hybrid- ONLY LOCAL'S
W2---THIS IS FULLTIME ROLE, NEED ONLY CITIZEN
Role Type: 12 months contract – long-term extensions highly likely
We are seeking a highly skilled Ab Initio ETL Developer to join a data-driven team responsible for designing, developing, and supporting ETL pipelines using Ab Initio. This role requires strong hands-on experience with Ab Initio and offers the opportunity to work with cloud technologies (preferably AWS) and large-scale data platforms. The developer will be involved in extracting, transforming, and loading data from various sources into performant, scalable solutions.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- 5–7 years of strong hands-on Ab Initio development experience
- Minimum of 10 years of IT experience, primarily in ETL/Data Integration/Data Warehousing
- Strong with ETL design, data pipelines, and building complex Ab Initio graphs
- Experience with any relational database (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.)
- 1-2 years of Data Integration project experience on Hadoop Platform, preferably Cloudera
- Working knowledge of HDFS, Hive, Impala and other related Hadoop technologies
- AbInitio integration with AWS S3 and Redshift and/or other AWS database services
- Solid understanding of SQL and performance tuning
- Working knowledge of Unix/Linux shell scripting
- Good knowledge of OLTP and OLAP data models and other data warehouse fundamentals
- Able to work independently and mentor junior developers when needed
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Ab Initio on cloud (especially AWS)
- Hands-on with AWS services such as:
- S3 (accessing, loading, performance tuning)
- AWS native databases: Redshift, Postgres, Athena, RDS
- Exposure to Cloudera Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Hive, Impala)
- Background in healthcare domain (preferred but not required)
- Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC) in ETL workflows
- Familiarity with Java is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Owners to gather and understand data requirements
- Design and develop Ab Initio ETL pipelines to extract data from various sources (databases, files, message queues)
- Transform and load data into target systems for analytical and operational consumption
- Support and enhance existing pipelines with bug fixes and optimizations
- Ensure high code quality and create documentation including technical designs and operational runbooks
- Conduct unit testing and troubleshoot issues in lower and production environments
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
