A career in construction may be your destination.The Merit Apprenticeship Alliance is seeking hardworking, honest, healthy minded Carpenter apprentices.The Merit Apprenticeship Alliance will provide you with on-the-job training (OJT) (through employment with our contractors) and classroom training in the Carpenter trade (the cost of training is paid from the benefit fund).On-the-job training involves physical labor in heavy highway, building and environmental construction.Sounds ok, but what is the pay?On prevailing wage projects (sometimes known as ‘union’ scale), first term apprentices will earn between $17 and $21.45 per hour. All wages will increase every 6-12 months. On private projects (during the slow season) first term apprentices will earn at least $15 per hour. Typically, apprentices work mostly on public projects.Want more? The Alliance provides full benefits that include health insurance, training, supplemental unemployment, holiday, vacation and a pension - these benefits are part of your compensation and are worth at least $16.50 per hour.Interested? - has a basic knowledge of materials, methods and tools of construction.
- is at least 18 years of age and has a high school or GED
- possesses a valid driver’s license.
- can provide their own reliable transportation to and from jobs sites and all classroom training (related instruction).
