We are looking for a Lab Technician – Microbiology to join our team in Allentown, PA. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, quality testing, and contributing to a mission-driven organization. No previous laboratory experience is required — we welcome candidates from manufacturing, production, warehouse, food industry, food service, and retail backgrounds.
What You’ll Do
As a Lab Technician, you will support microbiological testing processes by preparing samples, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring laboratory procedures are completed according to quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare samples for microbiological analysis by recording, weighing, and blending samples
- Label plates and samples accurately to maintain traceability
- Pipette sample solutions into tubes or plates according to testing procedures
- Prepare agar plates, media, and broths used for microbiological testing
- Place samples into incubators under specified conditions
- Read plates and tubes to determine microorganism levels
- Enter testing information and results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Set up equipment and materials needed for testing procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment
- Follow quality, safety, and continuous improvement procedures
- Participate in cleaning schedules and sample retention activities
- Support laboratory operations and complete additional tasks as needed
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Basic understanding of science and laboratory procedures
- Ability to accurately follow detailed instructions and testing procedures
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills and ability to enter data accurately
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related field
- Previous laboratory, manufacturing, production, food, or quality experience
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Work is performed in a laboratory setting
- Must be comfortable standing for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- May work with laboratory chemicals, fumes, and equipment such as autoclaves
- Personal protective equipment (lab coat, gloves, safety glasses) may be required
- Ability to recognize slight variations in color shades
Schedule Options
Option 1: 4-Day Workweek
- Tuesday–Saturday schedule (four 10-hour shifts selected as a set schedule one day will need to be a Saturday)
- 12:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Option 2: 5-Day Workweek
- Monday–Friday
- 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Training Schedule (First Month):
- 4-day schedule: Tuesday–Friday, 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- 5-day schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Overtime: Approximately 3–5 hours per week, paid at time and a half
Compensation & Benefits
