Role Description This full-time, on-site Diesel Mechanic role is based in Huntsville, AL. The Diesel Mechanic will inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and heavy equipment used in waste collection and transportation. Daily responsibilities include performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, completing preventive maintenance services, and ensuring vehicles and equipment meet safety and regulatory standards. The role involves using diagnostic tools, maintaining accurate maintenance records, ordering or requesting parts, and collaborating with operations staff to minimize equipment downtime. The Diesel Mechanic will follow company safety protocols, support a clean and organized shop environment, and may assist with road calls or emergency repairs as needed.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong skills in Diesel Mechanics and working with Heavy Equipment.
• Candidates should possess skills in Vehicle Maintenance and Equipment Maintenance.
• Candidates should possess experience in Preventive Maintenance for diesel trucks and related equipment.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and braking systems commonly found on refuse collection vehicles.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
• Strong attention to safety, with the ability to follow OSHA and company safety guidelines.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with drivers, dispatch, and supervisors.
• Prior experience as a diesel mechanic or technician in waste management, transportation, or a similar industry preferred.
• Relevant technical certification or vocational training in diesel technology or heavy equipment repair is beneficial.
• Ability to lift and move heavy parts and equipment, and to work in varying outdoor and shop conditions.
