About The Position

The Math Instructional Coach works in partnership with the campus leadership teams to support teachers in delivering math instruction. The Instructional Coach focuses on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of research-based effective instruction. In order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach will provide personalized support that is based on the math goals and identified needs of individual teachers.

This 12-month position reports to the campus Chief Academic Officer or his/her/their designee and collaborates with members of the central academic team for guidance and ongoing development.

Observe and Provide Feedback to Teachers

  • Coach Math teachers to effectively implement and track Tier 1 and Tier 2 math instructional methods with a focus on planning, execution, and small group instruction;
  • Model and support teachers to deliver evidence-based and effective instructional strategies;
  • Establish and lead cycles of goal setting, lesson planning, content knowledge development, observations, student work analysis, and feedback with teachers;
  • Record observation notes and develop key, actionable guidance in alignment with the Danielson Framework using the Teachboost classroom observation platform;
  • Meet regularly with Math teachers to provide observation feedback, identify high leverage action steps, and provide support (including practice) with teachers to help them internalize the feedback;

Planning and Data Analysis Support for Teachers

  • Review Math unit and weekly plans for alignment with coaching goals, content, and effective scaffolding;
  • Attend school-based teacher leader programming to build coaching skills and provide more targeted feedback;
  • Guide teams through planning sessions during Pre-Service and throughout the school year;
  • Participate in weekly instructional leadership team (ILT) meetings to promote and evaluate the effectiveness of math programming;
  • Support the analysis of math data and assessments in order to help teachers effectively respond to student need;
  • Support all teaching staff in using culturally relevant and responsive teaching practices;
  • Support math instruction and assessment of students as needed (e.g., facilitating math small group interventions to further support academic recovery, participate in grade-level planning meetings, support the administration of state assessments for students, etc.);
  • Design and deliver professional development sessions; and

Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer or his/her/their designee.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have the following education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5–7 years of teaching experience in elementary and/or secondary math
  • Understanding of the Common Core State Standards in mathematics
  • Ability to analyze student data in order to drive targeted math instruction
  • Knowledge of NWEA MAP, CAPE/Smarter Balance/Achievement Network assessments is a plus
  • State-issued teaching license or coaching certification preferred

Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the DC Charter Schools landscape
  • Ability to read graphs, charts, and dashboards that report academic data

Salary & Benefits

Meridian offers competitive compensation and benefits aligned with DC charter sector standards. More information is on our website .

Salary range: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 commensurate with experience.

Meridian staff also have opportunities to earn additional income through leadership projects and other school-based initiatives.
