Construction Survey Crew Chief Technician
Schedule: Full-Time
Location: South Jordan, UT
Meridian Engineering is a consulting engineering firm based in South Jordan, Utah. Meridian offers multi-discipline civil engineering and surveying services. Our construction staking and layout survey team is expanding, and we are seeking a skilled and motivated survey crew chief to join our team. This position will include working with experienced Professional Land Surveyors, Project Managers and Project Leads in conjunction with contractors who work to build the future of our communities.
In this role, you will use prescribed methods and procedures to perform under the direct supervision of an experienced licensed Land Surveyor. You will have the opportunity to learn, grow and be mentored in the land surveying industry. You will be part of a team of people who have built a great reputation for the work they do.
The ideal candidate possesses the following:
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent
- College classes or degree relating to Geomatics/Land Survey Profession is a plus
- Minimum of 3-5 years of crew chief experience with an emphasis in construction staking/layout.
- Must pass a drug screen and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, ensuring safety and responsibility on the job.
- Preference is given to local candidates, fostering community engagement and promoting familiarity with Utah’s surveying and engineering requirements
Skills and Experience
- Perform and oversee construction staking/layout for roads, utilities, buildings, and other civil related projects.
- Interpret and work from engineering plans, site plans, and CAD files to perform accurate field layout
- Maintain daily field notes, reports and cutsheets
- Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and engineers to resolve field discrepancies.
- Operate and maintain Trimble Robotic Total Stations, GPS, and data collectors
- Ensure field work meets project specifications, tolerances, and quality standards
- Enforce safety practices and company procedures on-site
- Ability to work independently and supervise junior crew members
