Underwriter
Meridian Capital Group is seeking a full-time, experienced Underwriter to join a dynamic, growing team supporting a senior-level team of Brokers. The Underwriter will play an integral role in the underwriting, structuring, and execution of commercial real estate debt transactions across a broad range of asset classes and business plans, including stabilized assets, value-add investments, new construction, and redevelopment opportunities. The Underwriter will work closely with Brokers and gain direct exposure to borrowers, lenders, and live transactions in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and assist in the placement of commercial real estate debt transactions
- Evaluate loan requests across the capital structure, including senior debt, mezzanine financing, bridge financing, and preferred equity opportunities
- Analyze property cash flows, debt service coverage, leverage metrics, and loan sizing across multiple financing scenarios
- Build and maintain financial models in Excel
- Prepare comprehensive loan submissions, including clear, accurate, and professionally written deal packages for lenders
- Coordinate active transactions by managing due diligence items, lender feedback, deadlines, and closing deliverables
- Review and analyze legal documents, third-party reports, rent rolls, operating statements, and borrower financial information
- Prepare market analysis reports, including vacancy, absorption, and comparable rents and sales
- Work closely and confidentially with lenders and borrowers regarding loan structures, financing options, and qualification requirements
- Build and maintain relationships with potential and existing clients and lenders
- Participate in networking through professional, business and community organizations and activities
Requirements and Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in commercial real estate finance, underwriting or a related financial analysis role
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Accounting or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired
- Well organized, with strong time management skills
- Exceptional written communication skills required, including the ability to prepare polished loan submissions, investment memos, and client-facing materials
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Exceptional quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-motivated and team-oriented
Meridian provides a total compensation package which includes a base salary, discretionary performance bonus and benefits. The estimated base salary range for this position is $100,000-$200,000 depending on the individual's experience level, skills and qualifications.
