Blow Molding Equipment Reliability Technician

Mergon Moulded Plastics
Anderson, SC Full Time
POSTED ON 7/28/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/25/2026

A day in this role

You roll in, review the CMMS for overnight work orders, and head straight to the floor. A blow molding line is warming up—you verify hydraulics and pneumatics, check extruder barrel temperatures, and listen for the telltale rhythm of a healthy clamp system. Minutes later, you’re diagnosing a sensor fault on a PLC-controlled trimmer, then pivoting to support a mold changeover that keeps scrap to a minimum and throughput on target.

Core responsibilities

Mechanical and process stewardship

  • Service, troubleshoot, and restore blow molding and injection equipment to optimal operation, including hydraulic and pneumatic subsystems.
  • Work hands-on with extruders, screws, barrels, and die heads; maintain clamp systems, molds, and tooling for consistent quality.
  • Keep auxiliary systems running: material handling (conveyors, loaders, dryers), chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, and vacuum pumps.
  • Support downstream assets such as trimmers, leak testers, and automation cells.
  • Lead and assist with mold changeovers, startups, and line changeovers; help fine-tune processes to cut downtime and scrap.

Electrical and controls expertise

  • Diagnose and repair PLC-driven equipment, HMIs, VFDs, and basic robotics.
  • Resolve electrical issues involving 480V power, motors, sensors, relays, and control panels.
  • Perform safe, standards-compliant wiring, panel work, and instrumentation repairs.

Preventive and predictive maintenance

  • Execute scheduled PM tasks and inspections with discipline.
  • Document work performed, spare parts used, and equipment condition in the CMMS.
  • Spot patterns, recommend reliability upgrades, and implement fixes for recurring issues.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of PM procedures specific to blow molding assets.

Safety, quality, and compliance

  • Adhere to OSHA, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and all site safety procedures; leave every area safer than you found it.
  • Maintain an orderly work environment and support 5S, Kaizen, and TPM initiatives.
  • Participate in facility and equipment audits/inspections and close out findings.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or GED; technical degree/certification preferred.
  • 3 years of industrial maintenance experience within plastic blow molding or closely related manufacturing.
  • Proven mechanical troubleshooting ability across hydraulics, pneumatics, and complex mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of 480V electrical, motors, and industrial controls.
  • PLC familiarity (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent preferred) and comfort with HMIs and VFDs.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Proficiency with common hand and power tools.
  • Flexibility to support overtime, weekends, and on-call needs.
