- Directs and coordinates day-to-day activities of the hospital pharmacy operations to ensure quality pharmacy products and services are provided to patients and customers in a timely manner.
- Oversees provision of pharmacy services in areas of responsibility, including operational, cognitive, educational and administrative functions.
- Develops an operations/clinical plan (including scope of service) integrated with MercyOne’s strategic plan and related departments operational plans in order to efficiently and safely provide services.
- Performs the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities outlined in the Clinical Pharmacist when working online as a pharmacist.
- Ensures adequate and properly trained staff in areas of responsibility
- Provides oversight for scheduling pharmacy support staff and ensuring payroll requirements are met. Reviews and signs off on payroll.
- Makes decisions concerning hiring of pharmacy staff supervised. Evaluates same pharmacy staff performance and assists with development of performance standards. Prepares and executes disciplinary actions and performance plans, when necessary.
- Develops, revises, and coordinates with others to implement department policies and procedures ensuring patients receive safe, effective, and timely pharmacy products and services.
- Process Improvement: identifies/implements changes or improvements to systems and processes that positively impact efficiency, effectiveness, or quality of department services.
- Collaborates with Director to ensure requirements of the Iowa Board of pharmacy, USP 797, USP 800, USP 795 and other regulatory agencies are followed, and that appropriate legal records and requirements are maintained.
- Ensures responsible stewardship of financial resources. Assists in budget preparation and ongoing monitoring (e.g. reviews and contributes to the monthly BV reporting).
- Demonstrates exceptional organizational and decision-making skills that facilitates the appropriate prioritization, delegation, and completion of assignments within the expected timeframe.
- Promotes teamwork by keeping others informed, participating effectively in group decision making, and working to accomplish team objectives, goals, and projects.
- Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
- Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
- Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth, development, and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
- Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy Medical Center – Northeast Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors.
- Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.
- Performs other responsibilities as requested by Director.
- Serves on designated health center committees and task forces as assigned.
- Plans and attends meetings and in-services in areas of responsibility on a regular basis.
- Participates in development of department strategic/operational plan that integrates with the organization’s strategic plan.
- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
- Bachelors or Pharm.D. in Pharmacy required
- Current Iowa Pharmacist licensure is required.
- Leadership/Business/Informatics degree is preferred.
- One or more years of supervisory experience is preferred.
- Residency training and/or certification in area(s) related to practice is preferred.
- Mandatory Reporter Training.
- Must have ability to make sound, independent decisions.
- Must demonstrate leadership ability.
- Must have the skill to prioritize assignments and delegate duties, as appropriate.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other hospital personnel.
- Expertise in the use of information technology specific to pharmacy/healthcare environment
