Description

POSITION PURPOSE

Installs, repairs, services and performs preventative maintenance of equipment, i.e. refrigerators, ice machines, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Essential Functions

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Installs, maintains, services and performs preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment and systems. As assigned, may perform general plumbing repair and installation on a variety of supply and exhaust systems. As assigned, maintain and repair a variety of pneumatic and electric equipment related to the trade. Troubleshoots assigned areas and/or equipment. Specializes in repair, preventative maintenance and service of refrigeration equipment. Must possess the ability to comply with MercyOne and Trinity Health policies and procedures. Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful, with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles. Other duties as needed and assigned by maintenance leadership. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other Trinity Health and MercyOne policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. CFC Refrigeration Transition and Recovery Certificate Specialized or technical training (e.g. high school or shop courses or by a relatively brief period of intensive preparation outside of school) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Two years of' experience or training in specialized and general areas of maintenance. Knowledge of general maintenance work, including plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical systems. Valid Iowa Driver’s/Chauffeurs License required, with an accident-free driving record for the last three years and at least 18 years of age. Proof of current personal automobile insurance as required by Iowa law. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

Physical And Mental Requirements

CONSTANT

  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances. Carrying tools and equipment back and forth, getting around buildings.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm, such as holding on to tools – screw drivers, drills hammers, power tools, etc.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

FREQUENT

  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees, such as when painting.
  • Reaching; Extending hands and arms in any direction while using power or hand tools, reaching to work on equipment, etc.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. When moving furniture, materials or equipment from one location to another.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Repetitive motions; Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers, such as wiring, turning screwdrivers, etc.
  • Pushing/Pulling; Using upper extremities to press against something to force forward or backward.

OCCASIONAL

  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes to objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instruction to other words accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal range and being able to make fine discriminations in sounds.

Physical Demand Requirements

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 40 pounds of force

frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Mental Requirements

Ability to maintain both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with employees, residence and visitors and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment. Adaptability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity. Adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and the procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively to employees or before groups. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Work involves taking measurements, assembling parts at distances close to the eyes and inspecting work. This job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to extreme cold; temperature below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour such as when doing snow removal. The worker is subject to extreme heat; temperatures above 100 degrees for period of more than on The worker is subject to noise from power tools, fans, compressors and other loud equipment. e hour such as when working on roof top units. The worker is subject to vibrations from using power tools, working around large equipment and other equipment. The worker is subject to hazards such as working with electrical currents, working around moving mechanical parts. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions; one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin; chemicals used in cleaning wood dust and fumes from glues, etc.
