Middle School Math Teacher

Mercymount Country Day School (Mercymount), an institution known for its tradition of educational excellence, is seeking a strategic, mission-oriented, and collaborative professional to join our school community as a fourth-grade teacher. The teacher is accountable to the assistant head of school and the head of school and is expected to provide education to the grades and/or subjects assigned, implement the school mission and philosophy, follow the policies outlined in the school handbooks of Mercymount Country Day School, and adhere to the directives put forth by the school administration. Job Summary: The MS Math Teacher will be an ambassador and advocate for Mercymount promoting the mission and engaging positive relationships with students, families, faculty, and staff. This individual will establish a faith-filled and nurturing environment in which “each child is recognized as a unique gift of a loving God.” S/He will demonstrate knowledge of content, facilitate learning for all students following the Hartford standards and prescribed curriculum, and model Gospel values. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that support standards-based core academic instruction in all learning environments. • Maintains student grades for daily work, homework, assignments and progress reports through FACTS Student Information System. • Prepares, administers, corrects and analyzes student assessments. • Utilizes the conclusions derived from assessment analysis in developing lessons. • Identifies students with academic issues and refers those students to appropriate service providers. • Plans and provides intervention strategies for struggling students • Regularly informs parents or guardians of their students’ academic performance and behavior. • Instructs students, using various teaching methods including the use of technology • Plans, organizes and delivers differentiated instruction in an appropriate manner consistent with school curriculum. • Maintains school and classroom discipline. • Meets or calls parents to discuss student progress and issues. • Provides timely feedback to students, parents, and guardians • Effectively and regularly communicates with fellow staff members and school administration maintaining open communication. • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. • Performs related duties, such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organization • Performs other duties as assigned by the school administration • Maintains a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality and a strong work ethic. • At all times, demonstrates and exemplifies Catholic teaching based on Catholic principles. Qualifications/Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree with Rhode Island Teaching License with a content specialization in Mathematics or out-of-state equivalent • Middle Grades Math 5-8 or Middle Grades Extension preferred, but not required • Previous teaching experience preferred, but not required
