AGENCY & PROGRAM BACKGROUND:
MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.
MercyFirst’s Pregnant, Postpartum, Parenting (PPP) Program provides 24-hour residential care and supportive services for youth with a history of trauma and the presence of complex needs. Three agency-operated group homes provide youth with structure and supervision within family-like settings designed to provide evidence-based treatment to promote emotional and physical safety and stability, practice positive coping skills, and build healthy relationships, as well as case management services to support discharge planning through family reunification or independent housing, and youth development services to foster growth and competency in daily life skills . The residential programs provide specialized residential foster care for teens who are pregnant or parenting, and also accommodate their child .
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Program Manager is responsible for the operation of a PPP residential site (10-beds). Supervises milieu team and provides a safe and secure environment and applies Agency approved methods of behavior modification/motivation, verbal de-escalation techniques and nurturing care practices. Shifts assigned may vary and change according to Agency needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Related Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of related experience or a High School Diploma/equivalent with 5 years of residential care experience
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability and willingness to be available to respond to needs during evenings and weekends
- Must successfully complete all required training
- Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency’s Mission, core values, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging (DEIB).
- Must obtain FDNY Certificates of fitness for Fire Drills (F-07).
- Demonstrated knowledge and certification of Infant and Early Childhood care practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for our youth and their families.
- Coordinate and monitor the physical plant arrangements in adherence to city and state regulations.
- Maintain consistent daily routines of the living unit in accordance with Agency policy and treatment plan
- Supervise clients’ attendance/participation at structured activities (i.e. school, reaction, chores, meals)
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients
- Maintain consistent daily routines of the living unit in accordance with Agency policy and treatment plan
- Keep appropriate staff informed of the relevant information and incidents within assigned unit.
- Demonstrate knowledge of human development stages
- Participate as member of treatment team
- Ensure proper scheduling of YSC I and II staff and monitor same
- Report behaviors believed to be symptomatic or emotional, physical or psychological disturbances
- Document clients’ behaviors and activities
- Hire, train, supervise and monitor the performance of assigned staff.
- Review daily logs, accident reports, incident reports, etc.
- Complete payroll tasks in a timely manner.
- Implement and monitor all residents’ behavior management programs, residents’ allowance and savings, and unit expenses.
- Monitor and maintain program’s petty cash expenses and submission.

$55,000 to $57,000 per year
