Overview:
The Utilization Management Precertification Specialist II is a remote position that is primarily responsible for completion of precertification, notification, authorization and work queue management of patients placed in a bed at Mercy designated facilities. Notification of admission and precertifications must be completed timely and with attention to accurate details per payer requirements, and Mercy policies and procedures. The Precert Specialist II may also support other Utilization Management work queue functions that impact Mercys Revenue Cycle and acts in the role of a Preceptor by participating in Coworker onboarding functions.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience with Healthcare precertification and authorization functions and/or demonstrates proficiency in other Utilization Management work queue management functions.
OTHER SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- Ability to stay current on changing governmental and payor regulations related to precertification/authorization processes.
- Must have a good understanding of medical terminology and claim charging guidelines with the ability to read, discuss and understand basic patient medical information.
- High proficiency in computer applications.
- Ability to fully utilize automation, navigate and optimize various electronic processes.
- Must possess the ability to prioritize and organize daily functions and tasks to ensure departmental goals are met.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Effectively work with others involved in the Utilization, Precertification and Appeals Management functions as well as a variety of people and situations at all levels of the organization.
- Possesses integrity, imagination and initiative as evidenced by self-improvement.
- Demonstrates personal qualities such as kindness, compassion, understanding, integrity, interest and respect for others.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
