Overview:
The Director of HIM & Privacy, reporting to Mercy’s Executive Director, leads strategic efforts to ensure the integrity, security, and compliance of health information systems. This role oversees patient record accuracy, privacy policy enforcement, and EHR system management in alignment with HIPAA and other regulations. The Director collaborates across departments to strengthen data governance, mitigate risk, and optimize information workflows.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of HIM experience in an acute care hospital setting. Must have knowledge of coding/billing, medical terminology, health records, and EHR systems. Strong understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, and healthcare privacy regulations.
- Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management.
- Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- Preferred Experience: Leadership experience in a multi-facility or integrated health system environment.
- Certifications: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) or Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS)
- Other: Strong analytical, research, and data interpretation skills. Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHR systems. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
