Overview
Responds to life safety emergencies, providing pre-hospital medical care, rescue, fire protection, prevention, and suppression. Provides pre-hospital care in accordance with the State Department of Health EMS Regulations and department protocols.
Responsibilities
Responds to emergency calls, providing scene stabilization, rescue, patient care, and fire suppression. Provides pre-hospital care to level of training as EMT-Basic, and by assisting Paramedics in advanced patient care. Emergency interventions are based on assessment, following written Adult and Pediatric protocols approved by the State. Operates ambulance and may operate fire apparatus.Demonstrates a commitment to life safety and patient care. Maintains a positive attitude and effective communication with co-workers, physicians, outside agencies, patients, and family members whether during routine or crisis situations.Documents emergency calls and routine activities. Documents patient transports and files reports to State. Documents first aid calls.Participates in the maintenance of the department, vehicles, equipment, and quarters. This includes cleaning, moving equipment, repairing equipment and vehicles, painting, and pumping fuel and water. Will involve the use of ladders. May involve rope rescue and heights greater than 50 feet.Participates in continuing education and continuous quality improvement. Attends courses and training related to the control and operation of complex rescue and fire suppression systems or other programs related to assigned duties.
Qualifications:
Education: Completion of fire training.Licensure: Valid driver's license, clean record, ensurable as operator. State of practice EMT license.Experience: None.Certifications: CPR certificationOther: Must be physically fit and able to pass departments Physical Ability Test and medical exam. Radio communication skills essential. Must be able to interact with outside agencies such as law enforcement and hospitals. Must be able to operate emergency vehicles safely. Maintain currency in EVOC. Must be able to interact effectively with all public and or corporate businesses and their management and staff in a positive manner that respects their organization yet projects Mercy Standards. Must complete Incident command courses and directed by the organization.Preferred Education: college hours and formal fire training preferred.Preferred Licensure: nonePreferred Experience: one year healthcare/ EMS preferred. One year fire fighting experience.
