Position Details:

Critical Care Stepdown Supervisor

Location: Mercy Hospital South – 10010 Kennerly Rd, St. Louis, MO 63128
Schedule: Full-Time | 40 hours/week | (4×10 hr. shifts)
Shift: Nights

Overview

Join our team at Mercy Hospital South as a Critical Care Stepdown Supervisor, where you’ll play a key role in ensuring safe, high‑quality, and cost‑effective patient care. In this leadership role, you will guide and support clinical teams, promote a culture of excellence, and help shape the future of patient care through servant leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support competent, compassionate co‑workers in delivering exceptional patient care.

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and collaborate closely with the Staffing Office on patient flow and bed management.

  • Use resources efficiently to meet productivity and financial goals.

  • Partner with clinical leadership, physicians, and administrative teams to enhance workflows and improve processes across the continuum of care.

  • Inspire and model a shared vision—encouraging change, professional growth, and continuous improvement.

  • Mentor, guide, and empower co‑workers to become leaders of change within the organization.

  • Provide meaningful recognition and foster a positive, engaging team culture through servant leadership.

  • Hold direct and indirect caregivers accountable for professional responsibilities, adherence to policies, and regulatory standards.

  • Participate in performance evaluations in collaboration with the Clinical Manager.

  • Demonstrate Mercy’s Mission, Values, and Service Standards in all interactions.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with one of the following:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing

  • Nursing Diploma

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Licensure: Must hold and maintain a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri or possess compact licensure, in accordance with state board of nursing regulations.

Experience: 3-5 years of hospital - Critical Care nursing experience

Certifications:

  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association, or completion within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: BSN preferred

  • Licensure: Additional state licensure or specialty certifications preferred

  • Experience: Prior management experience - experience within change management

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly

  • Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift

  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat as needed to perform nursing duties
