Program Overview

The Mercy Street After-School Program provides a safe, structured, and enriching environment for K–5 students during after-school hours. Running weekdays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the program offers academic support, social-emotional learning, faith-based mentorship, and recreational activities. Programming follows the Dallas ISD academic calendar and operates at Mercy Street in the Lakewest Multipurpose Center.

Position Summary

The After-School Program Director leads the planning, coordination, and execution of all aspects of the after-school program. This individual will ensure the program meets its goals for academic enrichment, personal development, and spiritual growth. The Director is responsible for staff supervision, curriculum oversight, safety, compliance, family engagement, and day-to-day program operations and program reporting. The expectation is that the director will work a schedule from Monday through Friday from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM, allowing for setup time and cleanup.

  • Understanding of and agreement with Mercy Street’s Statement of Faith
  • Being ready, willing, and able to contribute to distinctly Christian activities (including, but not limited to, worship or staff chapel) as an actively engaged Mercy Street staff member

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership & Management
  • Design and implement a holistic, faith-integrated after-school curriculum.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring program excellence, safety, and alignment with Mercy Street’s mission.
  • Coordinate scheduling, facilities, and logistics to ensure a smooth daily workflow.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership in service of Mercy Street Programming.

STAFF SUPERVISION & TRAINING

  • Hire, train, and supervise program staff, volunteers, and activity specialists.
  • Conduct regular check-ins, provide coaching, and facilitate professional development.
  • Maintain high staff morale and model servant leadership.
  • Child & Family Engagement
  • Foster strong, positive relationships with students and families.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for parent communication and support.
  • Address behavior issues and implement restorative practices as needed.
  • Partnerships & Community Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Dallas ISD, local churches, and community partners to support the needs of students.
  • Work closely with Mercy Street leadership to ensure strategic alignment and resource sharing.
  • Ensure all staff meet the required training subjects and hours as required by the Texas Health and Human Services and Child Care Licensing standards.

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

  • Ensure all activities comply with Texas Health and Human Services and Child Care Licensing standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date student records, incident reports, attendance, meal calendars, general communications and medical forms.
  • Oversee and conduct safety drills, emergency plans, and first aid protocols as required by the Texas Health and Human Services and Child Care Licensing standards.

MONITORING & REPORTING

  • Track and maintain program goals, student outcomes, and attendance data.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and evaluations for internal use and external stakeholders.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Complete the 40 hours of training, as required by the Texas Health and Human Services and Child Care Licensing agency, for the role of Site Director.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in youth programming, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong alignment with Mercy Street’s Christian values and mission.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students in diverse, underserved communities.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office; familiarity with program management software is a plus.
  • CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain prior to start.
  • Must pass a background check and meet all state child care licensing requirements.

Work Schedule & Commitment

  • Seasonal Employment Period: Aligned with the Dallas ISD academic calendar (August–May)
  • Minimum commitment to the full academic season
  • Part-Time, General Work schedule hours: Monday – Friday, 1:30 pm -6:30 pm Program Hours: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM, with some planning, prep, and occasional weekend events
