Job Summary: The HR Generalist provides support across employee relations, onboarding, recruitment assistance, training, and HR operations. This role is highly accessible to staff and leadership and plays an important part in ensuring new hires receive appropriate training support, leaders are equipped with compliance knowledge, and HR processes are consistently followed. The HR Generalist will regularly visit program locations throughout Ventura County and Santa Barbara County to conduct check‑ins and support safety and compliance efforts. The role works closely with site leadership and HR partners to support staff development, workers’ compensation processes, recruitment activities, and day‑to‑day HR needs.
Employee Relations

Provide support to management and HR partners on employee relations matters

Assist with disciplinary documentation and discussions in collaboration with leadership

Conduct or support workplace investigations involving policy violations, employee complaints, misconduct allegations, and other workplace concerns.

Maintain thorough and confidential documentation related to employee relations matters.
Recruitment

Assist with recruitment efforts by supporting job postings, applicant tracking, and coordination with hiring managers

Support candidate scheduling, communications, and interview logistics as needed

Participate in recruitment activities during periods of increased hiring demand or coverage needs
-
Assist with pre‑employment processes, including background checks, reference checks, and new hire documentation
Onboarding & Orientation

Support the onboarding process to promote a positive and consistent new hire experience

Coordinate with site leads to ensure new hires are assigned to staff who are willing and able to support training and shadowing
-
Review staffing assignments during onboarding to help ensure new hires receive effective and productive training support

Conduct facility tours for new hires, including review of safety‑related features such as fire panels, emergency water shut‑off locations, and fire suppression systems

Provide additional onboarding time for leadership staff as needed to review expectations and reporting procedures
Training & Development

Assess training needs and identify opportunities for employee and leadership development.

Conduct and support training sessions primarily for leadership and management staff

Deliver training related to:

Workers’ compensation awareness and injury reporting

Professional communication with staff

Disciplinary processes and documentation expectations

Workplace violence prevention (including make‑up sessions for staff unable to attend scheduled trainings)

Utilize and adapt training materials provided to meet organizational needs

Travel as needed to support training sessions and leadership meetings
Workers’ Compensation Support

Support workers’ compensation processes by guiding leadership on injury reporting requirements, documentation, and timelines

Provide leaders with reference materials, notes, and “cheat sheets” related to workers’ compensation processes

Assist with paperwork coordination and communication related to workers’ compensation cases
-
Support interactive process discussions and reasonable accommodation requests.
Site Visits & Safety

Regularly visit program locations throughout Ventura County/Santa Barbara to check in with staff and leadership
-
Conduct safety and compliance walk‑throughs and observations to support adherence to established policies, procedures, and training requirements

Identify potential safety or compliance concerns and escalate findings appropriately to HR leadership or management
-
Reinforce training concepts and safe practices during site visits

Serve as an accessible HR presence in the field to support staff questions and operational needs
Policies & Compliance Support

Apply working knowledge of employment law related to conduct, attendance, and disciplinary matters

Follow established handbook policies and guidance provided by HR leadership

Assist with implementation and communication of policy updates and HR initiatives.

Coordinate with HR partners to obtain clarification or updates on policies as needed
HR Operations & Administrative Support

Maintain accurate HR records and documentation

Respond to correspondence related to EDD, disability, and employment verifications

Participate in internal meetings related to management issues, liabilities, and program concerns

Collaborate with HR leadership on program needs and policy considerations

Attend monthly program trainings to better understand program operations, staff concerns, and compliance processes
Miscellaneous

Attend staff meetings and required trainings

Enhance job performance by maintaining up-to-date professional knowledge through training, seminars, and review of HR publications

Education and Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered

Experience in recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and performance management

Working knowledge of labor laws and employment regulations

Experience supporting payroll, benefits, compliance, or investigations preferred

Data analysis skills related to tracking HR metrics

Proven experience in an HR role
