Role Description
Mercy House is seeking an experienced PRN Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide hands-on nursing care to guests receiving hospice services. This role requires direct hospice or end-of-life care experience and the ability to work collaboratively within a small, highly communicative care team.
This position is not long-term care or skilled nursing. The focus is on symptom management, comfort, presence, and dignified end-of-life support.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide direct nursing care to hospice guests in accordance with hospice plans of care
• Administer medications and treatments, including PRN comfort medications
• Perform focused assessments and monitor symptom changes
• Communicate changes in condition promptly to hospice agencies and Mercy House leadership
• Support guests and families emotionally during active dying and end-of-life transitions
• Collaborate closely with caregivers, hospice nurses, and Mercy House staff
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation
• Uphold Mercy House policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Contribute to a calm, respectful, and compassionate environment
Required Qualifications
• Current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Pennsylvania
• Hospice or end-of-life care experience is required
• (Long-term care or skilled nursing experience alone does not meet this requirement)
• Strong foundation in medication administration and basic nursing assessments
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfort supporting patients and families at end of life
• Reliable, professional, and emotionally grounded
Commitment Expectations
• Must be able to work a minimum of two (2) shifts per month
• Must be dependable and responsive when scheduled
