Mercy Community Healthcare has an opening for a Medical Director of Addiction Services in Franklin, TN. We are looking for enthusiastic people with a passion for making a difference in the lives of those we serve in our community.  The Medical Director of Addiction Services provides high-quality medical care and clinical leadership in addiction medicine. This role oversees the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, ensures adherence to established treatment protocols, and collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and leadership team to expand substance abuse services. The Medical Director participates in multidisciplinary meetings, provides education to patients and staff, supervises mid-level providers, and maintains accurate medical records. Additionally, this position supports quality improvement initiatives and leads staff training to promote best practices in addiction treatment.

We provide care to the uninsured, underinsured and insured through pediatric and adult primary care, mental and behavioral health services, and care coordination.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality medical care in accordance with recognized standards of care related to addiction medicine

  • Physician will adhere to established treatment protocols set by the agency

  • Direct the development, on-going review, and implementation of best practices related to substance abuse services

  • Work in conjunction with the CMO and other Mercy leadership to grow and expand substance abuse services

  • Provide clinical leadership to the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) team

  • Prepare and actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings

  • Explain treatment recommendations and review risks and benefits of prescribed medications with patients

  • Provide consulting services to other providers caring for patients to ensure proper integration of care

  • Provide education and counseling as appropriate with patients and their identified support system

  • Provide urgent care to patients as needed. This could include care in primary care and psychiatric clinics

  • Actively participate in Quality Assessment and Improvement management programs

  • Maintain timely and proper medical records with respect to all patients examined within agency standards for timeliness

  • Provide clinical supervision to mid-level providers as needed to ensure the care team is providing appropriate care in accordance with agency guidelines

  • Lead and participate in staff training on MAT best practices 

Qualifications:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Experience: MD or DO; Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Tennessee; an active DEA-X Waiver; board eligibility or certification in Addiction Medicine; successful completion and passing of the internal credentialing process; and the ability to obtain credentials from all relevant government agencies, health plans, or facilities.

Maintains and enhances clinical expertise through continued education, reviewing relevant journals, and staying current with published information. Communication: Effectively communicates with individuals at all levels, including consumers and coworkers, and demonstrates strong written communication skills through clear and accurate evaluations.                                                                                                                                                                                  Time Management and Organization: Consistently meets deadlines, comes prepared for meetings, and ensures progress notes and verbal orders are entered promptly. Plans paid time off in advance and shows flexibility by adapting to different clinical settings when needed.
