Position Summary:
The Referral Coordinator is responsible for handling all outgoing referrals for the practice and ensuring prior authorizations are obtained for in-house services. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a working knowledge of insurance and healthcare operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and process referrals for patients to specialists, diagnostic testing, and other external services.
- Obtain prior authorizations for in-house procedures and services, ensuring timely approval.
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, providers, and other healthcare offices regarding referral and authorization status.
- Document all referral and authorization activity accurately in the EMR system.
- Follow up on pending authorizations to ensure they are completed prior to scheduled services.
- Maintain current knowledge of insurance requirements and authorization protocols.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and ensure all needs are addressed efficiently.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional healthcare or administrative training is a plus.
- 1 year of experience in a healthcare administrative or referral coordination role.
- Familiarity with prior authorization processes and health insurance guidelines.
- Proficient with EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Previous experience in a clinic or specialty practice setting.
