Position Purpose
Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and preparing blood specimens for a variety of laboratory tests ordered by licensed clinicians. This role is essential in supporting high-quality, compassionate care in a family practice setting serving diverse patient populations.
What You Will Do
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws for patients across the lifespan, including adults, geriatrics, and occasional pediatric patients
- Explain procedures clearly to patients, creating a calm, trusting, and reassuring environment
- Properly label, store, and prepare specimens for transport and testing following established protocols
- Monitor and document basic vital signs as needed
- Maintain the laboratory area, including cleanliness, equipment readiness, and inventory management
- Adhere to Saint Joseph’s Health System policies, safety standards, and the Mercy Philosophy
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure seamless patient care
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certificate in Phlebotomy (required)
- One year of phlebotomy experience or completion of a clinical rotation in an accredited phlebotomy program with eligibility for certification
- Ability to work effectively with patients of all ages in a family practice environment
