Senior Product Designer

Mercury
Portland, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 1/11/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/13/2026
In the 1960s, Dieter Rams transformed how we think about functional design at Braun. Faced with a world of cluttered, over-complicated consumer products, Rams pioneered a philosophy of "less but better", creating premium tools that felt effortless to use despite their sophisticated capabilities. His radios, calculators, and home appliances didn't just work beautifully; they made complex functionality feel intuitive for discerning users who valued both performance and elegant simplicity.

At Mercury, we believe the future of finance lies in applying Rams' "less but better" philosophy to banking*. We're building premium consumer banking tools for founders, investors, and tech professionals who demand sophisticated functionality delivered through elegant, effortless experiences. As a financial technology company, we help people spend less time managing their money and more time building the things that matter to them.

We're looking for a senior product designer to execute exceptional user experiences You'll bring Mercury's vision to life: premium financial tools that make complex banking feel beautifully simple.

We’re growing our design organization and hiring Senior Product Designers across multiple product areas — including Business Banking, Personal Banking, Risk and Payroll. Each of these teams plays a vital role in shaping Mercury’s premium financial ecosystem, and all share a commitment to thoughtful design, collaboration, and excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute exceptional visual craft and interaction design that elevate Mercury’s premium banking experience, bringing our vision to life through pixel-perfect interfaces and seamless interactions.
  • Help shape the vision while executing exceptional user experiences that bring our premium banking philosophy to life.
  • Design a complete experience, from customer-facing interfaces to internal tools, as part of a team building the entire ecosystem end-to-end.
  • Work across the entire design spectrum: translating requirements into wireframes, detailed interactions, and high-fidelity visual designs.
  • Create sophisticated interaction patterns that make complex banking workflows feel effortless and intuitive.
  • Design with meticulous attention to visual detail — typography, spacing, color, and motion — that reinforces Mercury’s premium brand.
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate on interaction concepts, balancing speed with Mercury's exceptionally high craft standards.
  • Design comprehensive user journeys with thoughtful transitions and delightful moments that anticipate edge cases.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering to deliver features that showcase world-class visual and interaction design.
  • Contribute to Mercury's design system with reusable components that maintain consistency across our expanding platform.

You’ll Thrive Here If You

  • Have 6 years crafting innovative, high-quality consumer products with exceptional visual and interaction design skills.
  • Demonstrate mastery of visual craft: composition, typography, color theory, and creating cohesive design systems.
  • Excel at designing fluid, purposeful interactions and micro-animations that enhance usability and delight.
  • Love designing for sophisticated users who appreciate premium experiences and notice exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excel at working within established product frameworks while bringing fresh creative solutions and visual refinement, appreciating proven foundations while contributing your own creative perspective and visual expertise.
  • Thrive in fast-paced environments where you can balance rapid execution with uncompromising design excellence.
  • Have experience with consumer fintech or complex financial products that serve professional users.
  • Enjoy the autonomy and impact of working on a small, focused team within a larger organization.
  • Are versatile across UI/UX, visual design, and interaction design, adapting your craft to different contexts and platforms.
  • Have experience building for multiple platforms and understand how to optimize visual and interaction patterns for web and mobile.
  • Understand when sophisticated visual treatments and interactions enhance the experience — and when restraint serves users better.
  • Can conduct user research to validate and refine your design solutions while maintaining focus on exceptional craft execution.
  • Exhibit kindness and humility in everyday interactions while maintaining exceptionally high standards for design craft.
