Head of Product - Interfaces

Mercury
Portland, OR Full Time
POSTED ON 10/16/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/13/2026
In the early 1980s at Bell Labs, Gerald Ash and his colleagues questioned a rule that AT&T's long-distance network had followed for decades; a call climbed a fixed hierarchy of switches until it found an open path. They modeled the idea, simulated it, and tested it until it held. In 1984, AT&T put Dynamic Nonhierarchical Routing (DNHR) into the national network, which became the basis of global real-time telephony routing that came after it.

At Mercury, customers reach us through Dashboard, Mobile, Command, our API, and Model Context Protocol (MCP). Each request should take the best path to the work, whatever surface it starts on. We're looking for a Head of Product, Interfaces to design that network. You'll set one direction across these surfaces and lead the PMs who build them. You'll also build the shared capabilities that let every Mercury team reach customers well: navigation, tasks, notifications, and agent interactions. AI is central to the role. The job is to find where AI removes real work, and to make it dependable enough to trust with money.

This is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the VP of Product. You’ll develop people while staying close to customers, prototypes, product decisions, and shipped quality.

*Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.

As part of this job, you will:

  • Set the product direction for Interfaces. Connect Dashboard, Mobile, Command, and API/MCP through a clear view of customer needs and the role of each surface
  • Lead and develop the PM team. Build clear ownership, coach product judgment, hire strong people, and help the team deliver excellent work
  • Shape Mercury’s AI experience. Partner with the Command team to turn new AI capabilities into useful products that help customers complete financial work
  • Improve the core product experience. Make it easier for customers to understand their finances, find the right action, and move between devices and workflows
  • Build shared capabilities. Help Mercury teams deliver through common foundations such as navigation, tasks, notifications, and agent interactions
  • Make quality part of product development. Work with engineering, design, data, and research partners to evaluate behavior, understand failures, and improve through evidence
  • Design for customer control. Make consequential actions understandable, permissions clear, and progress and results easy to inspect
  • Connect the portfolio across Mercury. Partner with teams building banking*, Spend, Books, Payroll, and other products to bring their capabilities into shared experiences
  • Own the tradeoffs. Balance immediate customer needs, new opportunities, and the platform investments that make future work faster and better

What we’re looking for:

  • 10 years of direct product management experience, with 5 years leading product managers: hiring, coaching, org design, and performance management
  • A track record of shipping products that customers value, with a clear account of your own decisions and contribution
  • Experience leading PMs and working across multiple teams or a broad product area; enthusiasm for developing people while staying close to the work
  • Excellent product judgment and a strong sense of design quality, simplicity, and customer experience
  • Substantial practical experience with AI products. You can discuss what you built, how you evaluated it, where it failed, and what changed as a result
  • The ability to turn ambiguity into a clear direction and a sequence of useful releases
  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to work with engineers on complex product and platform decisions
  • Experience aligning teams around shared capabilities while staying responsive to their different needs
  • Clear communication and the confidence to make recommendations, explain tradeoffs, and challenge assumptions
  • A habit of using customer conversations and product evidence to improve decisions
  • The willingness to own the full outcome, including work outside a narrow product remit
  • A high bar for your own work and a thoughtful, direct approach to helping others improve

We care about depth and judgment. Be ready to explain what you built, why you made the decisions you did, and how you helped your team get better.

Why this role:

  • You’ll shape the experiences that connect Mercury’s products to customers. The opportunity spans making financial software clear and useful and creating new possibilities with AI
  • You’ll help people do familiar things with less effort and discover better ways to manage financial work
  • You’ll have a broad portfolio, close partnership with company leaders, and the chance to build a team that combines strong product craft with ambitious, practical use of AI
