Job Description

Statistical Programming is in the Biostatistics and Research Decision Sciences (BARDS) department at our company’s Research & Development Labs which supports the targeting, discovery, development, manufacturing, and marketing of drugs and vaccines for the benefit of patients and global public health.

Statistical programmers have a key role in analyzing and reporting our company’s clinical trial databases. They use their analytical skills to programmatically develop and deliver analysis datasets, tables, listings, and graphics. Our company’s scientists and health authorities then utilize these deliverables to inform decision-making about the effectiveness and safety of our company’s drugs and vaccines.

Statistical programmers, in partnership with scientists across our Research & Development division, support all therapeutic areas and every phase of drug development.

This position provides high quality statistical programming analysis and reporting deliverables for global stakeholders in Early Development Statistics.

Accountability predominantly includes the development and execution of statistical analysis and reporting datasets, tables, listings, figures and submission deliverables under the guidance of a senior level programmer. The statistical programmer will perform validation tasks according to departmental SOPs and collaborate effectively with outsource partner on medical monitoring reports development, validation, and deployment. The position is a key collaborator with statistics and other project stakeholders to gather and document user requirements for statistical programming deliverables.

Primary Activities

  • Pre-process, filter, and manipulate complex data for the analyses of molecular biomarker data, imaging data, and external data other than traditional laboratory data
  • Programmatically develop, validate and maintain efficacy and safety datasets, tables, listings, and figures at a protocol level
  • Assure deliverable quality and compliance with departmental SOPs and good programming practices
  • Collaborate effectively with project team members including outsource provider staff

Required Education

  • BA/BS in Computer or Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field plus a minimum of 2 years of SAS/R programming in a clinical trial setting.

  • MS in Computer or Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Life Sciences, Engineering, or related fields.

  • Knowledge and experience in developing analysis and reporting deliverables for R&D projects (data, analyses, tables, graphics, listings)

Position-Specific Required Skills And Experience

  • Solid SAS or R programming experience for data manipulation, analysis and reporting
  • Interest and ability to work in an exploratory environment, handling non-standard data in a variety of formats with minimal requirements
  • Ability to learn new program techniques, multilingual skills, Gen AI skills, as well as data structures and data standards quickly and effectively
  • Takes direction effectively and completes programming tasks under the guidance of a senior programmer at a project level
  • Ability to identify data issues and understand complex data structure
  • An interest in advancing career by investing in development activities and taking on tasks with increasing levels of challenge and responsibility

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • Opensource programming languages such as Python, Gen AI knowledge and experience
  • Ability to comprehend analysis plans which may describe the methodology to be programmed; understanding of statistical concepts
  • Good working knowledge of reporting processes (SOPs) and software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Ability and interest to work across cultures and geographies

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, Monday - Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence.This Hybrid work model does not apply to, and daily in-person attendance is required for, field-based positions; facility-based, manufacturing-based, or research-based positions where the work to be performed is located at a Company site; positions covered by a collective-bargaining agreement (unless the agreement provides for hybrid work); or any other position for which the Company has determined the job requirements cannot be reasonably met working remotely. The salary range for this role is

$96,200.00 - $151,400.00

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.

The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
