Merchants Insurance Group is a leading Property and Casualty Insurer in the Northeast and is looking for a Product Specialist – Commercial Auto for our Corporate Product Management team to join our Corporate Headquarters located in Buffalo, New York.  

The Product Specialist will become part of a dedicated commercial lines product team focusing on reviewing product and competitor analysis, defining new products with consideration for product enhancements including coverage/endorsement needs, exposure analysis, tiering, rating plans, marketing opportunities and training needs for the commercial auto lines of business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Supports Product Managers in the management of the assigned line(s) of business by monitoring and analyzing results, monitoring and analyzing competitor information, implementing corrective underwriting action and development of new products and enhancements to achieve corporate loss ratio and production goals.
• Works with Product Manager to manage the rate review process for the assigned lines of business to assure compliance with all state requirements and timely implementation and communication of rate and/or product changes.
• Responsible for the management of the circular review process including the maintenance bureau circular activity along with the status of Company adoptions.
• Research, analyze, document and monitor product modifications and system modifications based on bureau approval or regulatory changes. Assist with the implementation of these changes.
• Act as Project Lead or team participant on projects involving product or system updates. Effectively employ project management strategy, skills and procedures to meet project objectives. 

 Qualifications & Skills:

• Qualified candidates will have a 4 year degree or equivalent work related experience.
• 10 years property and casualty experience with commercial auto product line of business.
• Knowledge and familiarity with ISO (Insurance Services Office) products is a plus.
• Capable of strategic research, including market and competitor intelligence.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Microsoft Office knowledge as well as the ability to work with internal company systems (WINS, ImageRight etc.).
• Exceptional organization, verbal and written communication skills are highly desirable. 
• The ability to excel in a team environment.

Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale.  Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale.  The estimated salary for this role ranges from $75,000 - $100,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package.  This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience and qualifications.
