Job Classification: Staff, Full-Time, Academic Year Only, Non-Exempt
Hours: Variable Hours: 12-hour evening shift, every fourth weekend during the school year
Reports To: Director of Health & Wellness Services
Summary
Reporting to the Director of Health & Wellness Services, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing services at the Rutherford Health & Wellness Center (HWC) to residential and day students. These services can include direct professional nursing care during illness and injury per HWC protocols, health maintenance and promotion activities, referrals and care coordination. The Registered Nurse can expect to interact with diverse populations such as students, families, faculty, health care team members and other community health partners.
Example of Duties:
- Provide nursing assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation for students who present for illness, injury, management of chronic conditions or emotional health needs
- Respond to health emergencies in the school community
- Report care status to appropriate health team members
- Liaison between families, school staff and community health providers for student needs
- Assist providers with health appointments as appropriate
- Medications administration, management and compliance assessment
- Enter and maintain accurate medical records of student and family encounters via Magnus Health
- School health forms review for compliance
- Responsible for office administration, light housekeeping, and equipment maintenance
- Triage employee accidents and injuries; Provide workers comp info when appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of nursing practice and care of the adolescent population
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures
- Ability and desire to work with the adolescent population
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills along with high attention to detail
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently
- Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally
- Proficiency in computer operation, including various software applications
- Maintain a current driver’s license.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania required
- Current CPR/AED certification required
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Minimum two years experience as a professional nurse required
- Background/experience in pediatric/school nursing, community health nursing, and/or emergency room nursing preferred.

May be required to lift patients with the aid of another person; Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to use a computer, telephone, copy machine and medical equipment; need to verbally communicate to exchange information; must be able to perform CPR.
