TITLE: PAINTER
REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Maintenance Department
FLSA: Non-exempt
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Position receives some supervision in carrying out its work assignments or the work follows very clearly defined procedures and practices.
Purpose of Classification:
Under general supervision, performs journey level work in the painting, finishing, and maintaining of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures. May also be assigned to assist other skilled trades as needed for light duty maintenance.
Example of Duties:
- Prepares, primes, sands, seals, patches and paints furniture, surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials such as varnish, lacquer, shellac, enamel, latex, epoxy, water-proofing and heat resistant finishes.
- Operates, cleans and maintains all painting equipment, including brush, roll, sprayers and electrostatic sprayers, pumps, etc.
- Safely stores and labels all materials.
- Erects scaffolding, rigging and ladders as necessary in a manner consistent with safety codes.
- Matches, blends, and mixes paint for jobs.
- While not the primary role, may be asked to change light bulbs, air filters, or lend a hand to another skilled trade such as plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of industrial/commercial and residential practices and processes within the painting trade.
- Ability to use required tools and equipment used in the painting trade. General knowledge of methods, practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skill in mixing and matching paint and varnish and the safe and proper use of all protective coatings.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 years experience in the painting trade or completion of an approved apprenticeship.
- Requires valid driving license.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs.unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades. Must be able to work from heights on scaffolding, man-lifts and high reach equipment. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely.
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education approved by Human Resources.
