Principal, Health & Benefits – Level H – Detroit
- Leads complex client engagements, including managing overall service delivery, strategy, financial evaluations, plan design, renewal, business placement, benchmarking and other studies.
- Manages development of sophisticated benefits design and renewal strategies and drives the development of tools and solutions to address complex client issues.
- Determines the full scope of services provided to the client and sets roles/responsibilities within the client team.
- Is accountable for revenue/profitability for client accounts and projects.
- Generates sales by expanding revenues from existing clients and by leading prospecting efforts with new clients.
- Sets strategic direction and creates demand for new products/services in the marketplace and leads successful regional or national marketing initiatives.
- Leverages company's size and reputation to negotiate highly competitive rates and coverage options from carriers and vendors.
- Delegates effectively to provide developmental opportunities to team members. Provides mentoring and coaching to direct reports and project team members.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BA degree; Master’s degree a plus
- 15+ years’ experience in identifying, designing, recommending and implementing efficient, innovative business solutions to clients' complex benefits challenges, particularly healthcare; or equivalent experience
- Analytical and mathematical skills, strategic planning, problem solving, communication, and listening skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple and complex tasks
- Completion of continuing education to maintain credentials as required for State health and life insurances license(s); or commitment to doing so
Job Description
- Provides vendor, contract, and/or administrative analysis
- Responds to ad-hoc client requests pertaining to administrative and operations issues.
- Supports financial analysis and review in partnership with actuaries to support budget projections, funding rates, vendor renewal reviews, reserve calculations, etc.
- Contributes as a member of the consulting team in developing benefits and/or human resource strategy; and ensures plan and program changes are properly implemented embody client’s strategy
- Interprets and presents benchmark data to client
- Demonstrates project management skills, manages the quality and timeliness of deliverables, and delegates to and reviews project work of junior colleagues
- Accesses and manages internal specialty resources (e.g., pharmacy; voluntary benefits; life, accident, and disability, stop-loss, etc.) ensuring client deliverables meet client’s goals and deadlines
- Assists with the preparation, completion of peer review process, and delivery of clear and concise client consulting deliverables (e.g., emails, letter reports, PowerPoint presentations, etc.)
- Oversees production of clients’ healthcare dashboards and claim and utilization reports
- Ensures compliance with professional standards including use of templates, client calendar, peer review, and transparency
- Establishes necessary vendor relationships with appropriate contacts to serve clients in handling all administration (eligibility, claims, billing, plan implementation, contracts, plan changes and necessary amendments)
