Since 1989, Mercer Island Youth & Family Services Foundation has played a crucial role in funding Mercer Island’s Youth & Family Services (YFS) department programs and services that enhance residents’ well-being throughout their lives. We collaborate with the community to raise private donations, ensuring the ongoing success of YFS, which provides parenting resources, senior services, mental health counseling in schools and the community, and emergency assistance—working to create a lasting positive impact on every community member.
Position Overview
The Engagement Specialist works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and city partners to drive the success of our fundraising, communications, and outreach efforts. This role requires a highly organized, proactive, and tech-savvy professional who enjoys the craft of event planning and is comfortable using various digital tools to create event/campaign materials, data reports, etc.
The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while engaging with a variety of stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Event Management
- Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events, community outreach programs, and donor appreciation activities
- Manage event logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, and on-site execution
- Develop and oversee event budgets, timelines, and post-event evaluation
Donation Management & Reporting
- Oversee the donation process, including donor tracking, acknowledgments, and reporting
- Maintain accurate donation records and generate regular financial and impact reports
- Collaborate with the Treasurer and database administrator to ensure proper documentation and reconciliation
Marketing & Communications
- Implement marketing strategies to promote events, campaigns, and the Foundation’s mission
- Create basic marketing materials such as social media graphics, email newsletters, flyers, and event collateral using tools like Canva
- Monitor and analyze marketing performance metrics and recommend improvements
- Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Event Management, Nonprofit Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in event management, fundraising, marketing, or communications
- Strong computer proficiency and comfort learning new digital tools and platforms
- Experience creating basic marketing materials (e.g., Canva, email platforms, social media tools)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and donor management systems (e.g., Bloomerang)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
- Creative problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
- A passion for the Foundation’s mission and community impact
Compensation/Benefits
This is a 0.8 FTE position that requires part-time, in-office work on Mercer Island. Compensation is $50,000-55,000 annually, along with a health benefits stipend. Employees also receive paid time off (PTO) and paid sick leave, in accordance with Washington State requirements. Option for more flexible hours in the summer months.
