Duties
- Conduct patrols on designated routes using department issued vehicles to monitor for suspicious activity, enforce traffic laws, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
- Investigate criminal incidents through evidence collection, crime scene management, and thorough report writing to support prosecution efforts.
- Execute arrest procedures in accordance with legal protocols, ensuring safety for all parties involved while adhering to search and seizure laws.
- Enforce state criminal and traffic laws, criminal procedure, immigration laws, and animal handling regulations with professionalism and respect for community rights.
- Manage conflict situations effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, arrests, evidence logs, and reports while ensuring compliance with procedural law requirements.
- Engage in ongoing training related to firearms handling in law enforcement, procedural law knowledge, criminal law experience, search and seizure law, and use of force procedures.
- Assist with community outreach initiatives to foster positive relationships between law enforcement agencies and residents.
- Other specialty fields available after two years of service.
Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Prior experience in law enforcement or military service is highly desirable, but not required.
- Proficiency in report writing with attention to detail and clarity is required for documenting investigations accurately.
- Physical conditioning must meet standards necessary for demanding field activities such as pursuits or physical confrontations.
- Minimum Physical Fitness Test Requirements:
- 1.5 mile run – 14min 36 sec
- 18 push-ups – 1 minute
- 28 sit-ups – 1 minute.
- Ability to operate a vehicle safely under various conditions while adhering to traffic laws is mandatory.
Training
- After hired, applicant must complete the Basic Police Officer training at the WV State Police Academy, or equivalent approved by the WV Law Enforcement Professional Standards Committee.
- New Hires will complete on-the-job training through our Field Training Officer Program
Pay: $49,753.00 - $81,000.00 per year
